Curt actually offers three different hitches for a 2010 F150 (see link).

Part # 13368 is a Class III with a square tube crossbar and # 13371 is a Class III with a round tube crossbar. Both hitches have a 600 lb tongue weight, 6000 lb towing capacity. A class IV, part # C14002 with a 1000 lb tongue weight 10000 lb towing capacity is also available.

You can see the installation instructions for all three hitches by clicking on the provided links. As you can see by the instructions, all three hitches are very similar and would install in the same manner, and the receiver would be in the same place relative to the bumper once the hitch is installed.

If you click on the video link I provided, you will see the # 13368 hitch being installed on a 2010 F150. The top of the receiver was about 18 inches off the ground on the vehicle we installed it on and the distance from the hitch pin hole in the receiver to the furthest rearward portion of the bumper is 2-1/2 inches. The other two Curt hitches would be identical.

We also have the Draw-Tite Class III, part # 75691 that would be a bit tighter to the underside of the bumper. The crossbar of the hitch would be mostly concealed behind the bumper as you can see in the provided install video. I have edited a photo showing the Draw-Tite and the Curt hitch installed on a 2010 F150.

The Curt # 13040 you mentioned is actually for a 1996-2013 Chevy Express or GMC Savana Van, and would not fit your F150.
