How much and detailed assembly is required for the Swagman current 2 Bike rack coming out of the box?

You will pretty much be assembling everything for the Swagman Current 2 Bike Platform Rack # S64678. If you check out the attached photo you can see that really the only piece that comes pre-assembled is the shank portion.

It isn't very difficult to assemble everything though so if you really like this bike rack then I say go for it.

If you'd like something that is a little nicer and doesn't have as much assembly then I recommend checking out the Yakima HoldUp which comes as part # Y02445 for a 1-1/4" receiver or part # Y02443 for a 2" receiver. This is a wheel mount rack so it works with any bike frame style that doesn't have a front fender, and then you only have to install the crossbeams to the shank piece as the arms and cradles are already connected to the crossbeams.

I have attached a photo of the HoldUp pieces for you to check out as well as review videos for both bike racks that you can reference.
