How to install the Etrailer Class III hitch part # e98849 on a 2011 GMC Sierra
Question:
My 2011 GMC Sierra has 4 bolts coming down from the frame, 2 on each side, and then two bolts to the bumper. Why do the photos show one bolt facing up and one bolt facing down on each side. Looks like the hardest part will be keeping the bolt heads from turning. Im guessing thats why the spare has to be removed.

The bolt closest to the front of the vehicle in the photo you sent, once it's removed the hole does not get used with the Etrailer hitch Item # e98849.
The hitch will actually use the two rear most holes on each frame rail and the two holes in the bottom of the bumper. The reason one bolt is facing up is because the hole closest to the rear of the vehicle is a pre-existing weld nut that the bolt actually threads into. The bolt facing down will use a spacer block to keep the head of the bolt from falling through the hole in the frame.
Using a socket on one end and a wrench on the other will keep the head of the bolt from spinning while tightening. Removing the spare tire makes the install much easier. The tire can be re-installed after the hitch has been installed. Keep in mind the pre-existing weld nuts will need to be cleaned out to make sure the new hardware does not cross thread.
I recommend Nylon Tube Brush - 1/2" Item # 814092 to clean the threads on the weld nuts
