Solution for Hitch Install Where Weld Nut Broke in Vehicle Frame

Question:

Hi, I was installing the hitch and the was applying torque to the smaller fasteners which require torque of 48 lb per instructions, it was reaching the required torque but it came loose and the fastener now just keeps spinning. I took the fastener out and noticed that the fastener had metal of the frame around it. The thread where the fastener goes in is damaged. What can I do now?

Sounds like you broke the weld nut in the trailer frame of your vehicle as you were torquing the hitch bolts down. Normally this doesn't happen but if the torque wrench used is out of calibration it's easier to do. One solution would be to weld the weld nut back in place so you can tighten the nut or you could fishwire in new hardware.

I attached a video that demonstrates fishwiring for you to check out. I also attached a link to a page with all of our bolt leaders we offer as well.
