Electric Hydraulic Actuator or New Brake Controller for 2013 Chevy Silverado With Factory Controller

Question:

Please let me know which EHB Electric-Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes will work well with my 2013 Chevy Silverado 3500 integrated brake controller. The HydraStar Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes and the CAM adaptor have not worked that well. The trailer is a Ezloader custom. The GVW is about 14,300 lbs Thanks

The truth of the matter is that there simply isn't an electric over hydraulic brake actuator that is going to work well with the factory brake controller in your 2013 Chevy Silverado because those controllers were designed for electric brakes only.

So even with a new EOH actuator like the Titan BrakeRite I Plug and Play Electric-Hydraulic Actuator Kit # T4813102 you would still need the Titan BrakeRite SD Adapter for Ford/Chevy Integral Brake Controllers # T4845900.

That would be an expensive and only potentially better option, so instead I highly recommend simply replacing your factory brake controller with an aftermarket controller. Not only are these higher quality controllers, they are also designed to be used with EOH actuators.

I strongly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195.

This has a specific electric over hydraulic setting, a fantastic display and is going to give you very smooth braking - not to mention it will save you a huge amount over a new actuator.

I have added a link to a help article as well as a video review and install for you to check out of the Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195.

Okay, so the issue is that the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator # HBA-12 is for drum brakes because of its maximum 1,200 psi, and would not have the needed pressure to give you effective braking for your disc brakes. So because you have disc brakes, you will need a new actuator, the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes # HBA16. This is going to give you an actuator that has a maximum 1,600 psi which is needed for your trailer's disc brakes. I still highly recommend going with the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195, although if you decide to stick with your Chevy's factory brake controller you will need the adapter, the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Adapter # HBA-CAM.
