Is a Stabilizing Strap Required to Be Used on a Curt Hitch # C13136
Question:
I plan to use the Curt #C13136 hitch for a bike rack on my 2012 Audi Q5. I ed the Curt hitch because it has a more integrated look than the other options, but because of the way it attaches to the bottom of the frame rather than the bumper mounts, it needs a stablizing strap. However, the rear hatch on the Q5 has a spoiler that looks like it should not bear any weight, therefore, Im planning to use two straps and attach one at each side of the of the Q5s hatch laterally. My question is whether the Curt hitch will bear a combined weight from the bike rack and bikes of 130 pounds if the stablizing straps are used.

Since Curt specifies that you have to use a stabilizing strap like the part # 18050 when carrying non-supported loads such as a bike rack or cargo carrier I would recommend you use one even if the combined weight of your rack and bikes is 130 lbs.
Using two straps like you referenced would be a great idea considering that you would not want to damage your spoiler.
I attached installation instructions for the # C13136 for you to check out also.
I also attached a link to the hitch bike racks we offer for you to check out also.
