Sway Control Options for a Forest River Wolf Pup Towed by a 2017 Ford F-150

Question:

I have a 24 ft travel trailer weighing about 4000 lbs. I was looking to add sway control only. At highway speeds it tends to move around a good bit. Not sure what my best option is. 2017 F150 is the tow vehicle. Towing the Forest River Wolf Pup.

We do have options for you to add just sway control to your setup but there are a few things to note. One of the most effective methods to fighting sway control is making sure your trailer is loaded properly. This means that the loaded tongue weight (TW) of your trailer is 10-15% of your loaded trailer. You can use a scale like # e99044 to help you accomplish this.

When your trailer is properly loaded then adding a sway control unit is your next step up to help control your trailer. One of the most common ways to do this is by using a kit like the Curt Friction Sway Control # 17200 and adding a sway control bracket like part # RP26003 to your ball mount. The one downfall to this option is that you have to disengage it to back up.

Recently there are more unique ways of adding sway control that have surfaced. This includes the Tuson Electronic Sway Control System # 335TSC-1000 which uses your trailer brakes to help correct your trailer sway. Out of the available options presented, the Tuson unit is your best option because it provides excellent sway control (and the option to back up) plus it has a diagnostic system that takes the guesswork out of fixing any faults that may arise.

One other thing to note is that it is recommended to use a weight distribution (WD) system whenever the trailer is at least half the weight of the tow vehicle. Since this is the case for your towing setup a WD system with sway control is your absolute best option. If you were to go this route (which also helps keep your whole towing rig level) I recommend using the Reese Strait-Line # RP66083 which has arguably the best sway control on the market. You just need to complete the setup with a 2" # A-90 or 2-5/16" # 19286 hitch ball.

I have attached some review videos for you to reference.
