Comparing Hitch Extenders and Ball Mounts
Question:
I am confused about the weight capacity of Part #e88yr and Part #bm20 they both into my receiver so why is one only rated at #3500 and the other #6000 ? is the #bm20 just a heavier bar compared to the #e88yr? the receiver is factory installed but I dont know its rating , is it stamped somewhere? thanks for any input

The short answer is that # e88YR is a hitch extender while # BM20 is a ball mount. Using a longer ball mount will not reduce your towing capacity while a hitch extender's tow capacity will be reduced by half.
The other disadvantage of using the hitch extender is that there will be that extra potential breaking point between the extension and the hitch. Eliminating this means less towing noise and rattle by using the ball mount instead.
Your hitch's maximum tow weight rating can usually be found on a label on the hitch itself. It will often appear as a sticker with a table or the text telling you both maximum gross weight and maximum tongue weight capacity in lbs
