Recommended Weight Distribution System for a Intech Explore Trailer with Toyota Highlander Vehicle

Question:

I have found very few comments regarding WDH for my vehicle 2018 AWD Highlander with tow package. I saw that someone successfully used the Curt 17499 with this vehicle. It is definitely more expensive that the one above. What are your thoughts about real world experience with the Curt?

I do recommend you use a weight distribution system on the Intech Explore Travel Trailer while towing with your 2018 Toyota Highlander. The reason for this is because the weight of the trailer will be over half the weight of the vehicle which is the rule we use for determining whether or not a system is needed. The tongue weight as you mentioned could also cause the vehicle to sag if not for a weight distribution system and this sag really will have a negative impact on the vehicle's braking. Plus, most weight distribution systems fight trailer sway which is a known issue with lighter trailers like yours.

I highly recommend using the Husky Center Line Weight Distribution System part # HT32215 because it is a great entry level system for lighter trailers and it comes with everything that you need. It also has built-in sway control as mentioned above and the 400 lb - 600 lb tongue weight range will suite you well even if you are under 400 lbs. The Husky Center Line has a lifetime warranty.

Please note, you will need to reach out to Intech to make sure the trailer can handle a weight distribution system but most will be okay even with an aluminum frame. In regards to reversing, this won't be an issue so long as you remain relatively straight but if you do need to turn in reverse then just pop off the spring bars.

The Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System part # C17499 is an upgrade from the Husky Center Line Weight Distribution System part # HT32215 in that it has grease zerks for maintenance and allows for greater frame accommodation but there won't be much of a usability difference between this and Husky Center Line. The Curt TruTrack is also rated a bit too high for your tongue weight at 500-800 lbs so I would stick with the Husky Center Line. Please note, the vehicle being used is more or less irreverent when reviewing a weight distribution system because this variable does not effect much change at all.
