How to Mount Leaf Springs to Top of New Boat Trailer Axle

Question:

I am wanting to buy new axles for my boat trailer that have the brake mounting brackets welded on. My current axles mount under the leaf springs and I can’t seem to find any axles that come ready for that.

While we do have a solution for you, the axles we offer are an underslung design, but you can change that to get the leaf springs mounted to the top of your axle with an over/under kit.

First, in regards to the axle, to find the right replacement you will need to know the dimensions of your current axle's hub face to hub face and spring center to spring center; the other thing you need to know is the weight capacity of the axle you need, which should match or exceed the GVWR of your trailer.

For example the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with 4" Drop E-Z Lube Spindles # 7685269 has a 3,500 lb capacity and measures 95 inches from hub face to hub face and 80 inches from spring center to spring center. This comes with the brake mounting flanges welded on like you were wanting. For a hub you would need etrailer Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K.

Then, you would simply add the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-384-00 which fits a 2-3/8 inch round axle like the Dexter I mentioned and will moves your trailer's leaf springs to the top of your axle.

I have added a link to a video review for you to check out, as well as a link to our selection of axles. You can also get back to me with your measurements and I would be happy to find the right parts for you.
