Does Draw Tite Trailer Hitch for 2019 Subaru Ascent Have Capacity for Towing
Question:
Hello, I am interested in purchasing a draw-tite hitch for my Subaru Ascent over the OEM hitch due to the cost savings. I see draw tite hitch lacks the additional subframe brackets as the OEM and it mounts directly to the face of where the bumper bar is located. This concerns me if this hitch is meant to allow the full 500 lbs of tongue weight the vehicle is rated for. I will be towing a camper with 420 lb tongue weight. Others on the ascent forum have expressed same concerns. Is this hitch just meant for bike racks because those are the only customer pics I see posted.

I certainly understand the concerns you mentioned for the Draw Tite hitch # 76253 which fits your 2019 Subaru Ascent but Draw Tite rigorously tested the capacity of this hitch and found it has a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs and a tongue weight capacity of 750 lbs. Draw Tite is normally very conservative with their capacity figures as well and tends to err on the side of caution always in this regard. As long as you plan to tow under the capacity of this hitch and your vehicle you will be totally safe! I attached an install video for this for you to check out as well.
For trailer wiring you'd want the part # 118290 if your camper has a round 7-way trailer connector or the # 118790 for a 4-way flat. Both of these install very easily and come with very reliable converter boxes as well.
Since you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
