Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness. You will have to remove access panels, threshold, trunk floor panels and trays, and some interior paneling to access this harness. The connection point for the 7-way tow harness is located behind the rear bumper, on the driver's side. The Modulite plugs into the factory wiring harness within the driver's-side storage compartment in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the Modulite, insert the included fuses and relays into your fuse panel as indicated in the instructions.

Once installation is complete, the 7-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 7-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Installed in my 2020 Subaru Ascent with no issues. The only thing I didn't do was run the black wire to the battery. All other lights tested okay and will be using it for the first time on the 30th of June.

Overall great product. It was a little hard finding the adapter for my make and model (2020 Subaru ascent), but after I ordered that it was plug and play! Ran the 7-pin and pulled my trailer several hundred miles with no issues. I did have the unit reset a few times when restarting the vehicle. 10/10.

Kit was nice, but the bracket I purchased did not match the 7 pin connector so I had to drill the connector to match the holes.

Product electronics failed within 1 year. I had to splice in other trailer controller electronics.

2019 Subaru Ascent

Great hitch, easy to install. The 7-pin wiring harness was a bit more complex but I was able to find a way NOT to drill a new hole in my Subaru. I hope to share what I found with etrailer.com so that they can do a video of it. Shipping was fast and have been impressed with them before and will continue to do business with them in the future.

by:

It was easy to install. the only problem with the installation was for the plug mounting. There was no clear cut mounting instruction and where to put it. It worked out ok. All is working well.

by:

Very easy to install, much closer to a 2 out of 10 installation difficulty. You must pull the rear facia, which has about 6 screws and 10 plastic plug in holders, unbolt the bumper (8 bolts), and bolt on the hitch in place of the bumper using the same holes. Piece of cake.

It would be helpful if they would tell you that the top 2 plastic push in fasteners at the rear wheels will release if you push the tiny center button in. This is opposite of normal and can be frustrating. Less than 1 hour install.

Seven pin connector looks to be a PIA, but I need the reverse light signal.

by:

Perfect fit. Has been in for over a year with regular use and no problems. Customer service is also great from this company. Would use them again

2019 Subaru Ascent

Maybe don't connect the power wire and the ground in the wire wrap. I plugged in the power and immediately burned out the fuse. Maybe that is my bad but the directions could have been a little more clear about that.

by:

Not easy to made the connections at back of the receptacle but once connected it worked fine. Videos at etrailer are excellent and very helpful!!

by:

A work Intensive kit, but high quality material for a custom installation.

by:

Product arrived with a component broken. This order was returned, feedback was requested to alert me if item was received. At this time, I have not received feedback regarding of this return was processed.

Great Service.

I have had absolutely no problems with this trailer wiring kit. It was plug compatible with my 2022 Ascent. The thing that took the most time was running the 12 volt wire up to the battery. Important to know that all Ascents have a connector beneath the cover near the rear bumper. Even if Subaru says it does not. Its a problem of semantics, if you didnt purchase the towing package the answer seems to come back you dont have it, but you do.

  • Best Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2021 Subaru Ascent
For your 2021 Subaru Ascent there are four trailer hitch receivers that will be all be hidden behind the center bumper cover, the EcoHitch # 306-X7381, the Curt # C25VR, the Draw-Tite # 76253, and the etrailer # e55ZR. These hitches are all pretty similar as they all share the same 750lb tongue weight rating and 5,000lb trailer weight rating, and will all install with the crosstube hidden so only the receiver itself will be visible. Since all of these hitches share the same design they...

  • Trailer Connector/Wiring Harness for 2021 Subaru Ascent
The correct wiring harness needed will depend on the type of trailer you're wanting to pull. If you're pulling something basic like a small utility trailer and only need a 4 pole trailer connector, the # 118790 would be what you need.
