Best Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System for Trailer with 400 Pound Tongue Weight

Question:

My trailer is a viking 17bhs and its tongue weight of 400 lbs. I see the tongue weight limits are apparently 800 lbs minimum. Is this a problem using this system for me? Thanks

When picking out a weight distribution system it's important to make sure your setup's total tongue weight, which includes the loaded tongue weight of the trailer along with any added cargo weight coming from behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle, falls comfortably within its weight capacity range. If your trailer's loaded tongue weight will be around 400 pounds the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System # C17500, which has a tongue weight capacity of 800 to 1,000 pounds, will definitely be a bit over-rated. This will lead to a pretty rough ride for the trailer during travel.

The Curt TruTrack # C17499 will be the much better system for your setup. This particular model has a tongue weight capacity of 500 to 800 pounds. Once you factor in the added cargo weight on the trailer and your tow vehicle your total tongue weight should fall right into this range.

The only thing you will need to add to this system (if you don't have one already) is a compatible hitch ball. The Curt # A-90 for a 2" ball would work perfectly.

I have attached a short video demonstration on the Curt TruTrack that you can also check out.
