Will Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution Work for 4,000 lb Travel Trailer?

Question:

I am looking for a weight distribution bar system for a 23 foot travel trailer with a weight of 4000lb. I saw a Curtis system. Will that one work and are hard to install?

A Curt TruTrack weight distribution system would work, but to get the correct part you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your vehicle. The tongue weight is typically between 10% and 15% of your trailer's GVWR but you'll want to verify it by using a scale such as the etrailer # e99044 or by using one of the methods outlined in the help article on determining tongue weight I've linked for you. From there, simply add on the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle and you'll have your TTW.

The ideal system would be one in which your TTW would fall somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity. For example, if your travel trailer had a GVWR of 4,000 lbs and you had 100 lbs of cargo behind your tow vehicle's rear axle, your TTW would be in the 600 lb to 650 lb range. If so, the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution # C17499 would be a great choice because it has a tongue weight capacity of 500 lbs to 800 lbs.

I've added a link to our page with each of our weight distribution systems for you to come back to once you determine your TTW or if you let me know what it is I'd be happy to make another recommendation for you. I've also added a link to a video review of the Curt system for you to take a look at.
