Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System Setup

Question:

I have the Curt 17500. Single axle TT. 4000# fully loaded. 2010 Ram 1500. 1250# payload, 9950# max towing. In watching several videos on the correct setup procedure, I have seen a wide variance in the advice as to how high to initially set the ball over the level-height of the trailer ball coupler. One said 1/8inch for every 100# of estimated tongue weightinch between 1/2inch and 3/4 and one said 3 inches! Please tell me the correct way to set the ball height relative to my trailers coupler. I want to do it right and DIY... Thanks!

When using the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # C17499, which is a great system for your trailer weight and vehicle, you will initially setup your system just like you would a ball mount. So you will measure from level ground to the bottom of your trailer coupler when the trailer is sitting level to the ground. Then you will adjust the hitch ball height on your trailer to correspond to that measurement at the base of the platform the hitch ball rests on. I've attached an article to assist as well as installation instructions for the TruTrack.

When you add the trailer weight to the ball it will drop the back end of your truck, but when you apply the spring bars to the brackets it should bring it back to level. You may need to make some adjustments with the initial fit to ensure you have level transport of both your truck and trailer with the system engaged. Once you have found the correct fit, it makes each time you connect the system extremely easy.
