Higher Rated Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2017 Ram 1500 Than Bumper of Truck
Question:
My 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 has a bumper hitch and the truck has a rating of 4400+/- lbs. If I put a class 3 receiver on it will that increase the tow rating? Online the truck as two ratings on 4400+/- and 8000+/-. Would that be the difference between the Bumper hitch and class3 hitch?

Yes, going with a frame mounted trailer hitch will give you more capacity than towing with the ball mount hole you have on the rear bumper of your 2017 Ram 1500. This will allow you to utilize the full towing capacity of the truck.
The Curt hitch part # 13333 is a confirmed fit for your truck and installs easily so it would be a great option as long as you weren't planning on towing over 6,000 lbs as that is the hitch's capacity. If you do need more towing capacity than that you'd need the even higher rated Curt # 14374 which attaches to the bottom of the truck frame rails instead of around the bumper beam like the # 13333 so it provides even more strength. The install of this hitch is also relatively easy as well. It has a towing capacity of 10,000 lbs. I attached an install video link for this as well.
