Does Installing Curt Trailer Hitch on 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Affect Rear Crumple Zone Integrity

I just purchased a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek and plan to install a Curt hitch mainly to carry bicycles, minimum towing. Subaru stated their OEM hitch is installed in-line with the frame which maintain the integrity of the rear crumble zone. The Curt C1338 hitch is mounted below the frame. Does the Curt hitch affect the safety of the crumble zone in an accident? Thank you.

The install of the Curt 2-inch hitch part # C13382 that you referenced on your 2019 Subaru Crosstrek would not negatively affect the crumple zone of the rear bumpers. This attaches to the bottom of the vehicle frame where a hitch was designed to attach by Subaru. If you were rear-ended the hitch would provide a bit more rigidness but it would still crumple like it would need to and be safe.

The spacers that come with the etrailer hitch that fits your 2022 Subaru Crosstrek are designed to be used as a way to level the hitch as needed. So if using them causes your hitch to not sit level I would recommend removing them.
