Recommended Trailer Hitch for a Pontiac Safari
Question:
I want to install a hitch on my 61 Pontiac Safari wagon so we can pull our 17inch 1957 Arrowhead trailer. The frame rails are 2.25 in. wide, inside width is 42.5 in. outside is 47 in. , making the center line between the rails 44.75in. Would the 41522 hitch bolt on to the frame rails? Or should I just go with the Curt C13702?

The Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs part # C13702 will be a much better option for you than the Draw-Tite Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 41522. The Draw-Tite Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch Receiver is designed specifically for a 1988 - 1998 Chevrolet C/K Series Pickup and has a different frame spacing of 34" (center to center). There is not a trailer hitch designed specifically for your 1961 Pontiac Safari which is why you will want to go with the adjustable option that I am sure will work for you. The receiver tube opening also has a bit of a drop which will allow you to clear many different types of bumpers.
The Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs is super easy to install. The included frame brackets can be used for the template to drill the holes and then once installed all that is left would be to trim down the receiver tube body which can be done with an angle grinder or sawzall. The hardware that is needed is included for you.
