Load Rating For Trailer Tires on Tandem Axle Camping Trailer with 8,000 lb Loaded Weight
Question:
I have an 8,000 pound fully loaded tandem axle travel trailer. What should the tire load rating be? Thank you in advance.

Expert Reply:
Your tires should have a minimum load rating of 2,000 lbs each on an 8,000 lb tandem axle travel trailer. Tire and wheel combination will need to meet or exceed that rating.
For instance the tire and wheel combination made of the Kenda Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire installed on the 14" White Spoke Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D, Item # AM32161. Both the tire and the wheel of this combination have a capacity of 2,200 pounds at 75 psi.
If the tire would have a different rating than the wheel, you would go with the lower of the two.
I've attached some videos and an article to help further.
