What Trailer Suspension Enhancement is Best for Preventing Axle From Contacting Trailer Frame

Question:

I have a 10000# rated trailer with two 5000# axles. After takeing a trip over very bumby roads, it appears as though the axles have made very light contact with the frame. I have not overloaded the trailer. It tows fine otherwise. What is the easiest way to prevent damage to axle or frame in this situation?

If your trailer suspension is in good working order and your trailer has not been overloaded the axles should not contact the frame at any time, even on bumpy roads. However we do offer suspension kits in various ratings that can help prevent axle-to-frame contact.

The link provided will take you to our product page showing five Timbren trailer suspension enhancement products that are compatible with both double-eye and slipper spring suspensions. These hollow rubber springs install on the trailer frame and sit above the axle. Drilling and/or welding is required for installation. Generally one kit is used per axle.

These Timbren kits come in load ratings from 1000-lbs (part # TTRA1702) up to 16,000-lbs (part # TTRA5602). Your choice will affect the stiffness of ride quality. A higher-rated kit will provide more protection from axle-to-frame contact but will also deliver a stiffer ride. You might want to contact your trailer manufacturer for guidance as to which they recommend for your most typical trailer loads.
