Recommended Trailer Suspension to Dampen Road Shock

Question:

I have a 4x8 trailer that I want to replace the leaf springs, bushings etc. My goal is to have a softer ride because I am building a wood camper on top of it. The axle is 2” square and I believe custom built. Way overbuilt in my mind. The springs are about 25 1/4 “ apart. What spring setup would you recommend? See pics below

Based on what you are saying and your photos, it apprears you have springs that are double eye springs. The springs will need to be based on the load of your trailer. The axle capacity may be difficult to know as you said it appears to be custom.

I recommend determining the full capacity of the trailer including the wood you will be adding to it. Once you know that complete weight, then I can help you determine the best springs for your total capacity.

Overbuilt isn't bad in most cases, so if you just want to cushion what is already there, which looks in good shape, you can add a dampener like the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs w/ Line Relocation Bracket - Single Axle - 3K to 5K - Underslung # TSS-106-40.
