Installation of Brake Controller On My 2011 Ford F-150 Without Tow Package
Question:
The truck does NOT have factory tow pkg.however, does have the wire connector plug under the dash for the brake controller. I hooked it up and it does have power to it. I cant seem to find the wire at the rear of the vehicle for trailer brake or battery charge. Is it possible that they are not there as no factory tow pkg with truck. thanks

It is possible that the wires you are looking for have been terminated farther up the frame rail or may not have been ran back. Typically the wires would run to where the factory 4-way is plugged into, usually near the spare tire. If you cannot locate the wires, you will just need to hardwire the brake controller and 7-way, which is not as bad as it sounds (we have a kit for this).
You will need the Brake Controller 4 and 7-way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. To install, you will begin by connecting your existing 4-way to the 4-way on the ETBC7. The White wire is ground and will need to be connected to a clean metal surface on vehicle frame. The Black wire and should be connected to the vehicles battery through a 40-amp circuit breaker, the Blue wire will be connected to the blue trailer brake feed wire on the brake controller, and the Purple wire is the auxiliary wire and is for reverse lights if your trailer has reverse lights.
If you are able to find the wires at the rear of the vehicle, you can use the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole, part # 37185. Then you would need to use the Ford Brake Controller Adapter, part # 22292.
I have linked instructions for the Brake Controller 4 and 7-way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. Also linked is an FAQ on installation of a brake controller.
