Hitch-Mount Trike Carrier for 1-1/4-Inch Class II Hitch

Question:

I have a class II hitch on my Ford 2018 EcoSport, because a class III is apparently not available. I want to use a Hollywood trike rack that I have, but need a 2 inch receptacle The usual 1.25 to 2 inch converter seems to stick out a little to far. Are there any other options.

I understand your predicament, having a hitch and hitch bike rack that will not work together.

Smaller vehicles typically accept smaller hitches, and for your 2018 Ford EcoSport compact SUV only 1-1/4-inch Class II hitches are offered since the car itself cannot handle the load that a 2-inch Class III hitch typically can. We offer 1-1/4-inch Draw-Tite # 36660 and Curt # C12188 hitches both of which are rated for 350-lbs of tongue weight.

Hitch adapters like # HTAD, # HT5R, and # C45785 do convert a 1-1/4-inch hitch opening to a 2-inch but these all have the unavoidable side-effect of cutting your hitch capacity in half because they move the load further away from the hitch where it will exert more leverage on the hitch tube. Shorter adapters like Curt 6-inch # C45785 will be better than longer ones in terms of lessening the extra motion of the rack but you still lose half of the hitch's capacity.

The only option we currently have for you to carry a trike is the SeaSucker Trike Rack for 1 Trike # 298-BD1005. This is a roof mount rack that uses vacuum cups to mount and allow you to carry your trike.
