Recommended Trailer Hitch and Towing Capacity for 2018 Mazda CX-9

Question:

Hi there! I have a 2018 CX-9 and will probably be towing a trailer soon. What do you recommend for a hitch. Anything else needed? I'm also having some trouble locating how much of a trailer I can actually pull with the vehicle. Any help is appreciated!

We have everything you need to be able to safely tow a trailer with your 2018 Mazda CX-9. To do this you will need a trailer hitch, a wiring harness, and a ball mount/hitch ball combo.

I did take a look at the online version of the owner's manual and found that the 2018 Mazda CX-9 has a towing weight capacity of 3,500 pounds.

Starting with the trailer hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame # 76020. Its higher capacities and integrated wiring harness bracket on the crosstube make it the best option your CX-9. I have attached an installation video that you can use for reference.

Then for a trailer wiring harness I recommend the # C59496 if you don't have the factory tow package or the Tekonsha # 118278 if you do have the tow package. Either harness will provide you with a 4-Way connector to connect with and power a trailer's basic signal lights.

Lastly you will need a ball mount like the Curt # C45030 and a compatible hitch ball like the 2 inch # 63845 or the 1-7/8 inch # 19260 and a pin and clip like # PC3 to go with it.. I have also attached a great article that explains how to choose the right ball mount for your setup if this one is not sufficient to tow your trailer level.
