Parts Needed to Tow a Trailer with the 2011 Ford Fusion

Question:

Want to install hitch on 2011 Ford Fusion. Can only find class 1 hitch. Wish to pull utility trailer with two generators on trailer. Do I need a class II or can I safely pull a small utility trailer with 2 @ generators weighing approx. 200 lbs. each. I live in Florida flat land, no significant hills and would not haul generators over 50 miles.

Helpful Expert Reply:

You can pull a trailer with any class of trailer hitch, you just need to be under the weight capacity of either the hitch or vehicle, whichever is lower. Therefore, for your 2011 Ford Fusion I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 24865 which has a 200 lb tongue weight and 2,000 lb gross trailer weight rating. Please keep in mind that the owner's manual does not recommend towing a trailer with the vehicle so they do not list any towing capacity.

In addition to the trailer hitch you are also going to need a wiring harness, ball mount, and hitch ball. For a wiring harness, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118422 which is plug and play. For a ball mount, I recommend the Draw-Tite Drawbar part # 3594. For a hitch ball, I recommend the 1-7/8" Hitch Ball part # 19256.

I have attached review/install videos for you as well.
