How to Lower the Connection Point for a Hitch Bike Rack

Question:

I have a Toyota FJ Cruiser, using a Yakima Holdup. I want to lower the rack since it blocks the rear swing door. Is it safe to be used inverted? Thanks

I do have an option for you but Curt does not recommend using the Curt Dual 2" Receiver Tube Adapter part # D-192 in the fashion you described. This is also going to be the case for the Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver part # MPG544 as I called them as well.

The best option we have for you to lower the connection point that the manufacturer will still warranty is to use the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter part # RM-048-6. This adapter is going to provide a 6" drop but please keep in mind that it will also reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by 50% which is going to be the case for pretty much any adapter. The tongue weight capacity of this adapter would then be either 50% of the vehicles trailer hitch or 400 lbs, whichever is lower.

The Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack part # Y02443 weighs around 60 lbs which you will need to factor into the above.
