Roof Rack Requirements and Recommendation for Using Yakima SkyRise Tent on 2016 Toyota Highlander
Question:
Can I assume that this will work with one or more of your rack systems for my 2016 Toyota Highlander XLE. Which racks would you suggest for strength, durability, appearance and low noise. Essentially, asking you about a couple of choices for some of the top tier racks to go with this tent, assuming my SUV can even support the weight and is able to take this or any other tent. Thanks.

The key to picking out a roof rack that can be used with the Yakima SkyRise HD Tent # Y07437 is to make sure that the roof rack has a capacity of 165 lb at least. So the best option we have for your 2016 Toyota Highlander will be the Rhino Rack roof rack part # RRVA126B-2, # RRRCH4, and # RRRCP37-BK which has a 220 lb capacity. This fits the versions of the vehicle that have a naked roof and factory fixed points.
If instead you have flush rails that are on the roof of the vehicle you'd want the Rhino Rack roof rack part numbers # RRVA137B-2, # RRRCL4, and # RRRCP31-BK. This rack has a 175 lb capacity.
Since weight capacity is the biggest factor these two options are the best solutions as they are the highest rated. You'll also need to verify in your vehicle's owner manual the roof capacity and be sure it's rated for the weight as well.
To be able to use the SkyRise on a vehicle, both the roof and aftermarket roof rack must have a minimum load capacity of 165 lbs. This weight capacity, also known as dynamic weight capacity, is the maximum weight your roof and roof rack can safely support while the vehicle is in motion. If your setup meets these requirements, then you should be able to safely hold the tent and occupants when your vehicle is stationary. The stationary capacity, or static weight capacity, won't be listed in your vehicle's manual or your roof rack's installation instructions.
