Recommended 2-1/2 Inch Equalizer Weight Distribution Shank with More Drop
Question:
Hi - I have a 20 ft camper with 5300lbs max weight fully loaded, that we had been towing with our Ram 1500 2receiver. Weve recently bought a Ram 2500 2.5inch receiver, and found that the 2500 receiver is a little higher than the 1500. Even after lowering the hitch/equalizer on the shank to the lowest position, it was still a little high. Ive attached a pic of the shank we have from the 1500 setup that were now using on the 2500 - it has about a 9+inch rise/drop section. I think another inch or two of is all we need to fix the issue, and think the 4900, at 11.5inch rise/drop, would be all wed need. Also, because the 2500 has a 2.5inch receiver, it would also keep us from having use the 2inch to 2.5inch adapter that we have been using for the existing 2inch shank. Just looking to confirm if this sounds like Im going in the right direction. Let me know of any questions , or if more details are needed. Thanks!

Based on the pictures you attached (thank you!) it looks like you have the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank # EQ90-02-4100 that allows for a drop of up to 3 inches from the top of the hitch receiver opening. The adjustment portion of the shank has an overall height of 9-1/2 inches, which matches up to what you currently have.
The 2-1/2 Inch Equalizer Shank # EQ90-02-4900 that you referenced allows for a greater drop of up to 6 inches. It features a height of 11-1/2 inches on the adjustment side of the shank like you mentioned. This will give you up to 3 more inches of additional drop when compared to your current shank so it will work perfectly. It features 1-1/4 inches of incremental adjustment between the holes.
I also agree that eliminating the need for the reducer sleeve is a good idea, as this will create a more secure connection at the hitch on your new Ram 2500.
