Recommended Placement and Sealant for Installing Polar Multi-Purpose Ventilator PLR20

Question:

Can’t decide where to mount these on my trailer. It is a 4x8 flatbed snowmobile trailer converted into a box trailer. Concerned about road spray in rain will the spray come into the trailer? I was thinking of mounting one on each side of the trailer, placing one in lower front and second one high and to the back. What are your recommendations?

The Polar Multi-Purpose Ventilator # PLR20 has a lever to close the vent when there is risk of heavy rain (please see the linked photo) but the vent will block most water since it also has down-facing louvers on the outside. The lever lets you choose how much airflow you want.

Using one at each end of the trailer is a good way to provide cross-ventilation and for the most cooling I suggest placing the rear vent up high (so it can expel more hot air from inside the trailer) and the front one lower. This will let cooler air enter at the front vent and hotter air exit at the rear.

You'll want to use a good quality silicone sealant to both install and water-seal the vent. We have items like black RTV # LT37467 and white silicone sealant # 0160297.

Do the vents have screening to keep out rodents & insects?

There is no screening that comes with the Polar Vent # PLR20 but you can install some behind it when you install the vent if you'd like.
