Can I Tow A Trailer With A 2016 Hyundai Elantra
Question:
I had a question about product # c11303. I have a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. I want to install it to use for transporting heavier weight in a utility trailer. The weight of the utility trailer and the weight in the items inside would fall within the max limits of the hitch. Roughly 700 pounds in a 1200 pound trailer Is this ok as long as all weight requirements are followed? I see some comments saying 2-3 bikes is the max limit for one of these hitches. That cant be right.

Before installing a trailer hitch on your 2016 Hyundai Elantra you first have to tow according to the towing limits posted in your owner's manual. No matter the weight rating for the trailer hitch, the towing capacity of your vehicle takes precedent.
According to your owners manual, trailer towing is not recommend with the 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The reason for this might be that weight of a trailer on a hitch (tongue weight) may be too heavy for the frame and rear axle on the Elantra. Tongue Weight is the weight that the a trailer exerts downward on the hitch ball of the tow vehicle. However you are able to install a trailer hitch to carry accessories like bike racks and cargo carriers. A Class I hitch like Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11303 is rated to carry two bikes max. It is not recommended to add more than 2 bikes on a Class I hitch is because adding weight too far away from the hitch can potentially cause the receiver or the hitch to bend or completely fail. Even if you are still within the tongue weight capacity due to the additional leverage that the weight of the third bike places on the trailer hitch receiver.
Please verify the above information by checking your owners manual regarding trailer towing.
If you find that you can tow with your Hyundai the Curt Drawbar # C45520 and Pin and Clip # F-4 are recommended. If you need at hitch ball, 1-7/8" Hitch Ball # C40001 and 2" Hitch Ball # C40018 are recommended.
The recommended wiring is the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56126. The plug-In location is behind the driver and passenger side tail lights inside the trunk.
