Recommended 7-Way Wiring for 2005 Jeep Liberty without Tow Package
Question:
I have a 2005 jeep liberty that Did Not come with the stock hitch but have purchased a used stock Chrysler hitch. The hitch still has the 7 pin plug with the harness plug on the back for attaching the stock wires to run to the vehicle. Is there any kind if plug and play wiring I can connect to the 7 pin harness and run into the vehicle. Thanks

We do have what you need to install a fully-functional 7-Way on your Jeep Liberty, however there is not a direct plug-and-play option like what you are looking for that would allow you to plug your existing 7-Way to a factory port on your vehicle.
In order to install a 7-Way, you will want to start by adding a 4-Way connector. I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118524. This custom harness will install by plugging into factory ports behind the driver and passenger side tail lights and then running the hot lead up to the battery.
Once you have the 4-Way installed, the best way to convert it to a fully functional 7-Way is with the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This kit includes everything needed to install the 7-Way from the 4-Way, along with the additional wiring and circuit breakers needed for a brake controller. I have attached the complete installation instructions for this kit that you can take a look at.
If your trailer does have electric brakes and you don't yet have a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. This proportional controller features an easy-to-read digital display, 3 boost settings, and continuous diagnostics that will alert you to any potential issues.
Lastly, I do recommend verifying that the used hitch you purchased will work on your Jeep Liberty. Trailer hitches are designed to install using existing holes in a particular vehicle's frame, making them pretty specific to the vehicle they are confirmed to fit. The trailer hitches we have available for your 2005 Jeep Liberty, such as the Curt # 13044, are only a fit for certain model years of the Liberty and no other model vehicle. This makes it unlikely that a hitch from a different vehicle will fit.
