The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56217 referenced in your question is confirmed to fit your 2015 Toyota Highlander. The harness will plug into factory ports that are located behind the interior trim panel in the rear cargo carrier. While we find that it's easier to leave the wiring in the cargo area, it may be possible to route the wiring under the vehicle and over to the trailer hitch. If there is a nearby grommet that allows access to the outside of the vehicle, you will just need to cut a small slit in it (just large enough for the 4-Way to slip through) and then pull the connector towards the hitch.
Keep in mind though that closing the rear hatch over the wiring of the 4-Way will not present an issue. The weather stripping on the door will prevent the wires from being pinched. Going this route will also allow you to store the connector in the cargo area when it's not being used to further protect it from the elements.
I have attached the installation video that you mentioned that you can also use for reference.
