Where to Ground Wire When Installing Hopkins Trailer Wiring Kit # 43315
Question:
On my 99 Tacoma, there is a convenient sheet metal tab on the underside of the bed of the truck above the Curt Class III hitch I installed. I could drill a hole in the side of this tab for the grounding wire. Is the bed a sufficient ground for this, or do I need to drill a hole in the frame? See the picture.

Expert Reply:
Hopkins recommends when installing the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # HM43315 that you ground it to the truck frame. Most likely you'd be fine if the sheet metal you found attaches direcly to the truck frame, but your best option is to stick with what Hopkins recommends.
