Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

2000 Toyota Tacoma

Fit my 2000 Toyota Tacoma perfect. Super simple plug and play. Only have to self tap the ground wire witch they provide the self tap screw. Took me maybe a hour and a half to install. Pretty self explaining really did need instructions. But it did come with them. I'd buy again. Great price also.

Still works great a year later. No issues whatsoever.

by:

Harness was easy to install with no specialized tools or training. The connectors were clearly marked and fit properly, two cable ties provided were not sufficient to secure the harness I added 8 additional. Very happy with this product.

by:

Eazy install,no troubles

Super easy to install and works perfect ly

2003 Toyota Tacoma

Quick and very simple install. It took longer to zip tie the extra wire than the actual installation, very happy with the wire kit for my 2003 Tacoma trailer wiring kit.

Worked great from the start. Still work ing!!

1992 Toyota Pickup

1992 Toyota pickup:
As far as etrailer
goes I was impressed. I ordered on a Wednesday at 4:30 pm. When I got home from work Friday (48 hours later) it was on my front porch. Now that's fast shipping!
The hitch was a good fit for 1992 Toyota pickup. The exhaust hanger was a slight problem as other reviews have mentioned. No drilling was required, I just had to grind the clearance notch for the hanger put in by the manufacturer about 1/2 inch deeper. The notch was there just not deep enough. Other than that it was a perfect fit. Installation took about 2 hours. Looks good with the chrome bumper.
I uploaded a picture of the notch.

1997 Toyota Tacoma

The Hopkins Plug-N-Tow Wiring Harness HM43315 was easy to install and allowed me to quickly replace the failing 4-pole connector wiring on my 1997 Tacoma. The control box on my old harness likely took an impact while 4 wheeling. It was brittle plastic and this one appears more durable.

Only gripe is that the wires on this unit were way too long for my truck (likely to fit more Toyota models) but they required a lot of wire management behind the rear bumper which leaves a bit more area for the next rock to hit.

Took about 40 minutes to install and that included adding spiral loom to help protect and neaten up the installation.

Well a year later and the center pin of the plug has fallen out. opened up the plug to hook up the trailer and the U-shaped center pin and a screw fell out on the ground. I have not tried fixing it yet since Ill need to undo the battery to avoid a short. Well see.

Can't get it to work with incandescent trailer lights. Your tech guy said it would handle only 1/10 amp, though the advertising said 2.6 amps per circuit. If I can only pull trailers with LED tail lights, it's not much of a bargain, is it? If my 1995 Toyota pickup doesn't provide enough current, why was that kit recommended?

This harness is rated for 2.1 amps per circuit and depending on how many lights are on the trailer it may be too much amperage for the harness to handle. For your 1995 Toyota Pickup I would recommend part # C55379 which gives 3 amps per circuit on the stop and turn lights and 5 amps per circuit on the tail lights.

by:

Excellent service. Received earlier than expected simple install. I really like having the ability to track my order also, adds to the experience. All good!!!!

by:

Well, I have to tell you potential customers.....my experience
in speaking w/George I found was very helpful in my initial purhase.
Aftering qualifying my application, I discovered the installation went
pretty smooth, couple of tug n pulls here an there, this reciever fit
exactly as intended. The electrical connection went smooth, and I
found after multiple towing efforts, this receiver hitch is very stable
and did the job!!. I would absolutely buy again from etrailer with confidence...

Bought and installed this on my 1994 Toyota pickup. Plugged right into my truck. Drilled an 1/8 hole in my frame for the ground strap and was done. No cutting, no splicing. The quality was nice. Works good and easy installation.

It’s been a year since I installed and reviewed this harness and I received an email asking for another review after product being in use for a year. It’s been fantastic and I’ve had no issues. I actually was able to inspect all the driver side plugs a few weeks ago when I had the taillight removed to replace my brake light bulb. Good product and I would recommend it to anyone who might be considering purchasing. You won’t be dissatisfied.

2004 Toyota Tacoma

Great price, fast and free delivery. The etrailer reciever was a perfect fit for my tacoma, very easy installed.

I just installed this wiring harness on my son's Tacoma. It took a bit longer than I thought it would. We first had to remove a similar harness that had been installed at a Toyota dealership, I assume when the truck was new. The install of the harness was pretty simple once we had the old one out. We followed the instructions in the video which made it easy. The one thing reason I didn't give it a 5-star rating is because the self tapping screw that came with the kit broke off, and wouldn't tap into the frame. We found an alternate location for the ground. The kit also came with only two really small zip ties, and we needed about 10 large ties to complete the job. Overall, I'm quite happy with the kit and the price.

by:
2003 Toyota Tacoma

I found it quite easy to put in but it took me as long to remove the old wiring harness that had broken or frayed wires and it was, obvious a poor install originally.
The only thing I didn't get is the double sided tape for the mounting of the module and a few more zip ties wouldn't been nice.
I would recommend this to anyone with a tacoma but assume all their harness's are of equal quality.
Looking forward to pulling a utility trailer for our disc golf course and general garden work.
Thanks James

Great! no problems at all

by:

Didn't know they made such a thing. I was ready to install a regular kit that would have involved splicing, soldering, heat shrink, etc etc. I'm glad I decided to check out you tube for tips. There I found this item. SOLD!! Installed great and works great! Huge time saver!

My son and I were going on a hunting trip and I needed to wire my 2004 Toyota Tacoma to pull my 4 wheeler on his trailer. I tried to tie into the wires, but that did not work. Got on line and found out I needed a special wire harness. Ordered my harness . Everything was well marked for very easy installation.

by:
2001 Toyota Tacoma

Went in very easy, only took me about 15 minuets to install the lights. Highly recommend connecting the lights to the trailer before mounting the receiving end of the lights. This will ensure that the wires will not be stretched when turning sharp.

by:
1991 Toyota Pickup

I have not installed the wiring harness yet, but it looks to be a very complete, high quality kit. It should really save me some time, as it plugs right in to existing wiring clips at each tail lite assly. Seems to be priced quite fairly for what is included. Thanks for quickly shipping me a great product!

by:
1995 Toyota Tacoma

The plug and go wiring harness mostly works well except that the turn signal lights are barely visible (running lights vice break lights).

by:

Easy install, the directions were great. I would suggest replacing the tail light bulbs when installing the harness since the lights have to be removed anyway.

by:

fast shipping- very easy to install -unplug tail lights and plug in tee fitting -no messing with wires

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Converter Box Failed on a 2003 Toyota Tacoma
The converter box alone in a trailer wiring harness such as # 118379 for your 2003 Toyota Tacoma cannot be replaced. The whole harness would have to be replaced. Since you have determined that all of the electrical signals going in are correct but not correct on the output side of the converter this does indicate a bad converter. But, if the converter stopped working because of a short somewhere on the trailer you will want to fix the short or the problem will keep happening. Make sure...
