Recommendation for Transporting 2 Kayaks with 2015 Nissan Frontier Short Bed
Question:
I have a Pro 4X Frontier crew cab 5foot bed with no existing cab rack. I want to buy a rack to haul very safely two 10+ Kayaks above the bed as I also have the bed covered hauling luggage. Is this best unit available to do so?DTA944-968-924

The Darby Extend-A-Truck Kayak Carrier # DTA944-968-924 referenced in your question is a great option and what I recommend for securing your two 10+ foot kayaks on your 2015 Nissan Frontier with the short bed. This system includes a universal-fit, rooftop crossbar that will mount to the Frontier's bare roof and a hitch-mounted load extension that will slide right into a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver. The extender crossbar has an inside width of 48 inches and the rooftop crossbar can adjust from 45 to 60 inches wide. You will just want to make sure this is enough room for both of your kayaks to rest side by side.
The sturdy foam block attaches to the load extender to provide a safe and cushioned resting place for the kayak. Since you will be loading two kayaks, you will need to add a second Foam Block like the Malone Foam Block # MPG172. I have attached a short video demonstration on this product that you can also take a look at.
To safely secure the kayaks onto the crossbars and load extension, I recommend using the Erickson Ratchet Straps # EM34416, which features a ratcheting handle to make for easy tightening and a push-button release so you can quickly get into the water at your destination.
