Recommended Adjustable Ball Mount for a 2008 Chevy 2500HD

Question:

hi i had question on tow ball mounts. i have chevy 2500hd i want to tow a trailer that weighs 2210 and car say 2900lbs over 5000lbs. i seen some tow ball mounts 500lbs tongue and 5000lbs towing. so i would need one that is over 5000lbs towing since im over 5000lbs total weight.

In order to choose the correct ball mount for your 2008 Chevy 2500HD, you would first need to find out how much rise/drop will allow you to tow the trailer level. To do this you will need to measure from the ground to the top of the inside edge on your trailer hitch and then compare that to the distance from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler while the trailer is level. I have attached a help article that walks you through this process as well.

In regards to weight capacity, you are correct in that some ball mounts will limit the gross trailer weight to 5,000 lbs and tongue weight to 500 lbs. However, we have several others with a higher weight capacity like the Curt Adjustable Ball Mount part # C45900 which is rated at 1,400 lbs tongue weight and 10,000 lbs gross trailer weight when when using the 2" ball or 14,000 lbs gross trailer weight when using the 2-5/16" ball. This ball mount also offers a rise up to 5" and drop down to 6".

I have attached a review video on the above ball mount for you as well.
