How to Adjust 5th Wheel Towing Setup So That it is Level

Question:

Can you tell me how to adjust both my new f250 and my Jayco 5th wheel to attain level towing? Especially leaving 4 to 6 inches of clearance Thanks

There are a couple of different options for adjusting your Ford F-250 and your Jayco so that they ride level and you have the 5" - 6" of clearance that we recommend from your bed rails to your trailer. If you measure from the ground to the bed of your F-250 and then from the ground to the bottom of your pin box that will tell you what distance needs to be covered for your towing setup to be level.

First of all most 5th wheel trailer hitches, like the Reese Select Plus # RP30081, have an adjustable height setting which is great if your Jayco, when sitting level, already clears your bed rails.

The second point of adjustment is found on the pin box of your 5th wheel trailer itself. There should be a few different mounting hole locations that you can choose from to pivot the nose of your trailer up or down.

The third thing that you could incorporate is an over-under conversion kit like part # K71-384-00 for a 2-3/8" axle or part # K71-385-00 for a 3" axle. This will move your axle from above your leaf springs to below your leaf springs ultimately raising your trailer the height of your axle plus your spring stack.

You can use a combination of all 3 methods to acheive a level towing setup that allows the 5" - 6" of bed rail clearance for your F-250.
