Pin Functions on the Battery Isolation Solenoid # PK5231201

Question:

having trouble trying to figure out what the third terminal is on the isolator. if im running from the 12v acc on the 7 pin to the isolator then to a battery, what would hook through the ignition terminal? also my trailer has electric brakes that run off the 12v acc from the 7 pin. is it going to interfere with the breaking system if i try to run to the alternate battery? i would like to use the trucks battery to maintain the charge when towing. can i also tie in my interior led lights to the 7 pin 12v as well? right now they are tied into the exterior trailer lights and i dont like it that way. want to be able to run them with the truck off if i need to. thank you for yout time and input

The 2 pins on the side of the Battery Isolation Solenoid # PK5231201 are the input/output of the 12V power (it doesn't matter which is which) while the center pin is supposed to be connected to your ignition switch. I have attached a photo to demonstrate.

Another thing you will need to note is that your 12V power pin and trailer brakes/brake controller signal are on 2 different pins (see attached picture of typical 7-Way wiring) unless you are referring to your breakaway switch. If your 12V accessory pin was the same as your trailer brakes then your trailer brakes would constantly be activated and your trips would be pretty unproductive. If you are talking about your breakaway switch then it wouldn't affect it because your truck shouldn't be moving when you turn it off, so your trailer wouldn't be moving.

The solenoid that you are wanting to install will essentially deactivate the power running to your trailer when your truck is off. If you are wanting to use the truck's battery to power the interior lights on your trailer then you don't want to install the solenoid and you want to make sure that you get 12V of power to that pin when you get off.

If you need help getting the interior lights of your trailer to activate seperately from your exterior lights just let me know and I can help you out.
