Wire Size Butt Connectors is Needed to Connect Wiring for Electric Trailer Brakes

Question:

Which Deka heat shrink butt connector do I need for Item # 23-26-27, is it 16-14 Gauge wire? Also which seal is better quality, Item # 58846 or Item # RG06-050 Changing brakes on a RV.

Electric brakes, like part # 23-26-27, use 16 gauge wiring. However, we generally recommend using 10 gauge, like part # 10-2-1, to connect to the brakes because of how far the wiring generally has to be run. So you need to use butt connectors large enough for the 10 gauge wire, like part # DW05745-5. They'll still be able to be crimped down onto the smaller 16 gauge as well, especially since they're heat shrink.

Between the two grease seals, parts # 58846 and # RG06-050, we prefer our own brand. So I recommend using 3 58846. It's what we use here.

Am curious on how to wire both electric brakes. Do you have to splice in the wire to run it to one of the brakes or are there connectors on the brakes to do the multiple hookup?

You will need to splice in each brake to the whole brake line circuit. Your brakes will have both a power and a ground wire already on them, but there isn't any kind of "T" connector that you'll use. Since these connections will be exposed to the elements use heat shrink butt connectors # DW05745-10 to make your connections.
