Recommended Self Adjusting Brakes for Al-Ko 4,400 lb Axles

Question:

I have a 2013 Keystone Laredo 5th Wheel 289SRE— I am looking for the self adjusting brakes and the drums for it. I’m thinking they’re 4400 pound axles.

Michael, so you are correct you do have 4,400 lb axles so you can use the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes # K23-478-479 for replacements.

These are self adjusting so you never need to manually adjust them, works with 14", 14 1/2", and 15" wheels, and includes both the left and right hand side.

For hubs we have had customers in the past use # 8-201-5UC3, but you'll want to check your existing bearings and verify that they will work with this hub.

Thank you, Bryce, but the Dexter self adjusting brakes say that the measurements are 2 7/8 across the top center to center and 3 1/4 across the bottom center to center,Mine on my trailer are 2 7/8 across the top center to center and 2 7/8 across the bottom center to center am I reading that right on your website for specs

@Michael That's strange because those measurements would make me believe that those brakes are for 3.5K axles, like # 23-468-469 which has the same measurements you have. Also it looks like you have 3.5K axle drums as well # 84557UC3-EZ. I wonder if since the 4.4K axle is not super common that the 3.5K axle braking assemblies were thrown on because they didn't have them.

@BryceD yes, this is where I’m getting confused because the outer bearing is LM67048 with 1.25 diameter and the inner bearing is L68149 with 1.375 diameter spindle, which with those measurements it’s not a 3500 pound axle

@Bryce That's interesting indeed. Ultimately as long as the brakes physically fit onto the mounting flange and have the same depth as what currently have the brakes mentioned above will work.
