Lippert Electric Trailer Jack Freezing in Cold Weather

Question:

I just purchased a 26 ft travel trailer and my electric tongue jack has frozen up twice in below freezing weather. My question is, is that normal? And if so how can I keep it from freezing up? I like to winter camp and I want to be able to leave my camping spot when I need to. Thank for your help. Arlington, WA

I spoke to my contact at Lippert Components (LCI) and they informed me that the jack will perform best in cold weather when it is properly lubed and cleaned. To clean the jack I recommend using a brake parts cleaner and spraying down both the drop leg and gears within the head of the unit. Once these two components have been cleaned you will need to acquire some LubriMatic White Lithium grease in 14 oz. Cartiridges # L11354 and apply that to the gears on the trailer jack.

Once you grease the gears on the unit you will also want to apply a small amount of dry grease to the drop leg on the jack. This will also help ensure it does not get stuck or frozen in cold weather. I also strongly recommend using a cover for the head of the unit like the Ultra-Fab Protective Cover for Electric A-Frame Jacks part # UF38-944020.
