Question:

In running the power wire, what issues exist under my 2011 Camry? Things to avoid? Best ways to secure?

When routing the power wire to the battery in trailer wiring harness, # 118482, you will want to avoid any areas that may pinch the wire, causing it to break. Any moving components like the suspension can potentially pinch the wire, so avoid moving parts.

You will also want to avoid parts that get hot enough to melt the wire. Exhaust components as an example get very hot and can melt the insulation. However, on the 2011 Toyota Camry, the battery should be in the trunk and you will not have to worry about moving parts or heat.

If the battery where mounted in the front under the hood, there are a couple of methods you can use to safely route the wire. The easiest is to follow along an existing wiring harness and use zip ties to secure the wire.

Another method is to run the wire inside the vehicle. This can be tricky and may require additional wire and the removal of internal trim pieces in order to keep the wire hidden.

Some people route the wire through the vehicle frame if possible. This would involve starting at the front of the vehicle where the wire would end up, and routing a rigid wire, like a coat hanger down the frame rail to the back. You would then tie the red wire to it and pull the rigid wire back through. Not all vehicles have a frame rail that would allow this method.

I have included a link to a video showing a typical installation of this wiring harness on a 2011 Toyota Camry. This vehicle has the battery in the back.
