Replacement for Dexter 8-91A Hub

Question:

I am looking for a replacement hub marked Dexter 8-91A. It is for a mid 1950s era trailer. The spindle is 1 inch diameter and the sealing surface diameter is 1.25 The length of the axle stub for the bearings is 3". Everything I can find locally has the races too far apart requiring an axle length of 4" or so even though the length of the hub is the same. I cannot see race spacing/axle stub required length in your descriptions. Do you have anything that will work for me?

I did some research and there is no direct replacement for your hub due to how old it is. So in order to find the correct replacement, you will need to know the bearing numbers of your current hub because the information you gave is irrelevant. If you are unable to find them, you would need to use a digital caliper such as # PTW80157 and measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings ride. You can use the photo I've attached to see exactly where you need to measure.

There are replacements available depending on your bearings, including # 8-91-05UC1, which uses inner and outer bearings # L44649, grease seal # 10-9, has a 4 on 4" bolt pattern and 5-1/2" diameter hub flange, for use with 8" to 12" wheels.

The other option for you could be # AKIHUB-440-2-1K which is for trailers with BT8 spindles, has a 4 on 4" bolt pattern and is for use with 8" to 12" wheels, but uses inner and outer bearings # L44643 and grease seal # 34823. I've included links to video reviews of these hub assemblies as well as links to help articles on finding and selecting bearings and hubs.
