Helpful Expert Reply:
The Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies, # AKEBRK-7-SA, that you referenced in will work for your Lippert axles.
This brake set includes both left and right brake assemblies and will replace the brakes on one axle. These brake assemblies are self-adjusting and will only need an initial adjustment during installation. Once installed the brakes will adjust as you use your trailer brakes.
As for replacing the trailer brake drums, check to make sure there is no visible signs of wear on the inside drum face and where the shoe will touch the drum. If there is visible wear, cracking, or pitting, then replacing the drums will be recommended.
I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 5,200 lbs to 6,000 lbs Axles, # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K. This Drum assembly will work with 12 inch brake assemblies and has a 6 on 5-1/2 wheel bolt pattern.
To confirm is this drum will fit your axle check the inner and outer bearing and grease seal numbers on your axle currently. If the numbers are not present on your components, then measuring the inside and outside diameter of the your bearings and seals will give you the information needed to find if this drum assembly will fit. The attached diagram will explain where to measure on your bearings, seals , and spindle.
I also recommend using Prime Guard Wheel Bearing Hi-Temp Red Grease, # L11380, when repacking your bearings. If this axle is used on a marine application, then I recommend using LubriMatic Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease, # L11402.
I have attached an article on trailer maintenance and videos on the brake assemblies and drums for you to review.
