Recommended Weight Distribution System for 2018 Coleman 2305QB Travel Trailer

Question:

I have a 2104 Chevrolet Silverado with a max tongue weight of 800 lbs and max towing cap of 6,000 lbs. Im towing a 2108 Coleman 2305 QB travel trailer with a dry weight of 4,901 and a tongue weight of 501 lbs. Would this system be ideal for my needs?

When looking for a properly rated weight distribution system, the most important factor to consider is the total tongue weight of your setup. This will include both the loaded tongue weight of your trailer (as if ready for a trip), along with any added cargo weight behind the rear axle of your Silverado. Ideally, this number will fall somewhere near the middle of the operating range for the system you choose.

Most likely, the 501 tongue weight that you referenced in your question is referencing the dry tongue weight. I recommend verifying its loaded tongue weight with a scale like the etrailer # e99044. We can take an estimate using the Coleman 2305QB's GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating), which looks to be 7,600 pounds based on my research. This is the most the trailer can weigh when fully loaded. A trailer's tongue weight should be between 10-15% of its total weight, so we can estimate a loaded tongue weight of 760 to 1,140 pounds.

With this in mind, the Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17050 referenced in your question is likely under-rated, since it has a tongue weight capacity of 500 to 600 pounds. I recommend looking at a higher rated system such as the Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66560. This particular system has a tongue weight capacity of 600-1,200 pounds so it should work great with your setup. This system features integrated sway control that will limit side to side movement of your trailer and will help to evenly distribute weight over the axles of your trailer and vehicle.. You will just need a compatible hitch ball like the 2 inch # A-90 or the 2-5/16 inch # 19286.

I have attached a video demonstration on this product along with an article on weight distribution systems that you might also find helpful.
