Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2008 Mazda Miata MX5 and a 1994 Mazda Miata

Question:

Plan to tow subject vehicle a few times a year on extended trips. Will remove bar at each destination. believe Base Plate 52728-1 with Tracker Tow Bar RM-020 is good set up. I also need lights and believe EZT20B tow light kit will be easy to install, use, etc. Am I right about all the above? Do I need anything else? Will this same set up work on a 1994 Mazda Miata as well? Any suggestions appreciated!

You are correct, the parts you have selected will work well together on your 2008 Mazda Miata MX5. There are some other parts that will be required.

First, you will need a set of safety cables. With the RoadMaster Tracker Tow Bar, item # RM-020, the RoadMaster Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables, item # RM-643 would be a good choice and will wrap around the tow bar to eliminate dragging.

You will also need a set of Roadmaster Tow Bar Quick Disconnects, item # RM-201, to disconnect the tow bar and base plate inserts without unbolting the cross bar at each destination.

Finally, your towing vehicle will need to be set up with a 4-Way connector and you might want to attach a jumper, item # 18045, to the tow bar to make hookup and disconnect with the # RM-2120 light kit easier.

For your 1994 Mazda Miata, you can use the all of the above mentioned items, except the base plate kit. You will need to purchase the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit, item # 711-4, and a set of car side quick disconnects, item # RM-222, and this car will be setup the same as the 2008. There is not a set of EZ base plates available for the 1994 Miata.

I have linked some Flat Towing information you may find helpful also.
