How To Know If Your Tiffin Motorhome Has A Towed Air Brake Setup Or BrakeSync

Question:

I have a 2023 Tiffin Allegro Bay 38AB on the Freightliner S2RV chassis has air brakes. I need a braking system for a 2022 Bronco Black Diamond without Adaptive Cruise Control. I have a Roadmaster Nighthawk all-terrain tow bar with the aftermarket bumper adaptor RM 035-1 to fit my Modular Bumper. Im thinking the Demco Air Force One is the best system but I see that some Tiffin Motorhomes with Freightliner Chassis come prepped for the Air Force One and that some Freightliner S2RV chassis come with Brakesync system. How can I tell what my S2RV chassis is equipped with and whether the Tiffin specific system will work? I am currently towing a 2014 Honda CRV with Stay-IN-Play Duo system our previous motorhome was a Class A gas with hydraulic brakes. Ive towed the CRV with the Stay-IN-Play with no apparent issues but concerned with the effects of the S2RV diesel engine braking affecting the TOAD brakes.

To determine if your motorhome has the Tiffin air brake setup or Freightliner BrakeSync you'll need to look at the rear and see if there's an quick disconnect fitting for your air line. The standard Tiffin air coupler fitting would look like a standard fitting, while the BrakeSync will have it's own proprietary coupler (pictured below). If you have the BrakeSync you'll want part # DM23MV, if you have the Tiffin air brake setup you'll want part # DM55MV.

If you find you have no air coupler in place then you most likely don't have an air tank either and would need the full kit # DM26VR to have both the towed vehicle and motorhome components.

If your motorhome has an engine brake that activates the tail lights then you would have issues using the Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # DM86VR since it activates the brakes in the towed vehicle when the light illuminate. This could cause your towed vehicle to brake unintentionally and would require you to swap over to the AFO since it only activates when the air brakes on the motorhome do.
