Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2015 VW Golf SportWagen TDI
Question:
I am looking to put a hitch on my 2015 VW Golf SportWagen TDI. I only plan on using it for a bike carrier. Which hitch would provide the highest receiver hight? I have experienced dragging the bike racks skid plate when departing steep sidewalks with a previous VW Jetta using the Curt round tube class 1 hitch. I am hoping to avoid that this time around. Thanks

For your 2015 VW Golf SportWagen TDI, there are two hitches available. They offer the same amount of clearance but I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # 24949 for 2 reasons. The first reason is that it does not have a reinforced collar on the receiver opening which will give you a very slight clearance advantage when backing up at the lip of the receiver. The second reason is that Curt requires a stabilization strap # 18050 for any non-trailer load like a bike rack in order not to void a warranty, and that is not required with the Draw-Tite hitch.
This trailer hitch receiver will work well for your bike rack.
