Why Does Curt Require a Stabilizer Strap But Hidden Hitch Doesn't

Question:

Was looking at trailer hitches for a 2014 Elantra. The Curt brand hitches state Note: All non-trailer loads - bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth - should be supported with stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty from Curt, but I do not see any notes on the Drawtite or Hidden Hitch brands. Do the other brands also require stabilizing straps? If not, what is the difference between the manufacturers. Looking for the hitch specifically to carry bikes rather than to tow a trailer.

Curt recommends the stabilizer strap with non-supported loads like bike racks to help support the hitch when going over bumps to prevent some of the vertical shock from being transferred to the hitch.

Curt does this as a precaution, it's not that Draw Tite or Hidden Hitch are stronger. Both hitch brands make outstanding hitches that are typically stronger than what they are rated for. I would say that Curt just happens to approach the idea of a bike rack/cargo carrier being used in a lower capacity hitch a bit more cautiously.

If you don't use a strap like the part # 18050 with a Curt hitch the warranty will be voided.

If you can let me know what kind of Elantra you have (coupe, sedan, or GT hatchback) I will be happy to make a hitch recommendation.
