Recommended Weight Distribution System for V-Nose Trailer
Question:
Recently purchased a V-nose cargo trailer looking for a Wieght distribution hitch, but with th v- nose I cannot install a standard round bar system. I have tried to mount a round bar system from my camper. I need a system that has a 28 inch bar not sure if a Trunnion system would work. I have a 2500HD with a duramax and I will be frequently traveling 900 miles carrying 6000 lbs in the trailer which has a GVWR of 9990 lbs

I have a great solution for using a weight distribution system with your new V-nose cargo trailer.
I recommend using the Reese Chain Hangers # RP58305 with the weight distribution system you choose. These brackets can either be bolted onto or welded to the exterior of your trailer's frame and are compatible with any chain hanger style weight distribution system. Weight distribution system chain hangers typically will need to be above the frame member on the trailer, however this kit attaches to the side of the frame and does not require the clearance above the frame, thus making them a perfect solution to cases specifically like yours. I have included the installation details on the hangers so you can get a better idea as to how they work.
Then for choosing the actual weight distribution system, the most important factor you will need to consider is the total tongue weight of your setup. This will include both the loaded tongue weight of your trailer along with any added weight coming from behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Ideally, you will want this number to fall somewhere around the middle of the weight capacity range on the weight distribution system you choose.
Typically the tongue weight of a trailer will be around 10-15% of the trailer's total weight. Using the 9,990 GVWR you mentioned in your question, we can estimate a loaded tongue weight of 999 to 1,498 pounds.
I recommend looking at the Straight-Line Weight Distribution w Sway Control # RP66130 for your setup. This system has a tongue weight capacity of 800 to 1,500 pounds and will help to evenly distribute weight over the axles of your tow vehicle and trailer for added stability and control. I have attached the installation details and a video demonstration of this product for you to check out.
You will just need to add a compatible shank and hitch ball like # RP54970 and # C40030 and you will be all set.
